More and more new big buildings are being built in Bangkok.
There is no more messy Bangkok I have seen when I visited here first time.
Luxury hotels and shopping malls keeps on increasing, girls became really fashionable, there's no big difference to Tokyo.

And finally the biggest shopping mall in Bangkok has been created.
This is ICONSIAM.

Take a free boat to cross Chaopraya river from the peer nearby BTS Sapantaksin station.

There you will find a free shuttle boat to ICONSIAM, with the sign saying ICONSIAM.
It was extremely crouded when the holiday season.

In the underground floor of ICONSIAM, you can find Thai traditional street foods.
If you care food safety, it is one way to taste nice authentic Thai traditional food.

This mall is created by Takashimaya, which is one of the biggest department store in Japan.
You can also find some drugstores, cosmetic store, and fancy stores all from Japan and catch the latest trend in Japan.

The most popular bag shop for foreigner, NARAYA, opened a cafe in here.

This is not only a shopping mall, they have free culture demonstration area for tourist.
It's enjoyable not only for locals, but also foreigners, it's literally an Icon.

I am back to Bangkok from Phimai.
In Bangkok, basically the water fighting are a is restricted, Khaosan, Silom, and Siam.
In Siam area, there are 3 areas, one in Siam Square, and 2 others are nearby Isetan department store.
For Khaosan, the water fight is restricted, because of the new king's parade.

In rural area, people are grabbing somebody to throw some powder and water.
But in Bangkok festival area, it is prohibited to touch people and to use the powder kind of things.
Eventhough they have the festival area, it doesn't mean people are not enjoying water fight on the street.
When I was taking minibus without window, a fire truck spread water and I was completely wet.

On 14th of April, I walked 5min from BTS Siam station, reached to Siam square.
Better to ware half pants to avoid extra body check at the entrance.
And get wet.

水がなくなったら所々にある給水スポットで水を足します。
サイアムスクエアは無料ですが、シーロムは有料だとか。

Several concerts by famous singers are going on.
When it comes to the song's hook part, usually fire is used to express the excitement, but of course water is used instead.
The band I saw was caller "Instinct", they played really good rock cover of some famous Japanese girl-band music in Thai.

Next day I visited Central world area nearby Siam Square.
This place also had some concerts, and also DJ musics.

In Phimai, rural area in Thailand, the temperature goes up to 40c.
In Japan usually temperature is much higher in city area because of less nature, but Thailand is the opposite.
Surprising thing is, they don't have air conditioner in each room.
In that way it is not surprising that they spread water on themselves.

Everybody aimed with water guns, not only young people, get onto trucks with barrels filled with water.
This kind of "barrel trucks" are prohibited in Bangkok, since it may cause traffic jam.
Somebody starts to play a music, everybody starts to dance.
Maybe whole country is dancing.

They use the water from the barrel and spread it around to "fight" with others .
I'm uploading the movie later!

Flew 6 hours from Tokyo to Bangkok, met my friends at the airport and she drove me to her home town Phimai.
Phimai is usually 3 hours away (by car) from Bangkok, has a big ruin from Khmer empire, every November they have historical festival.
I visited here when I was 17, for my highschool trip.
I visited a high school in Phimai, and stayed in a local student's house.
This is how I met my friend.

This time, it is right before the festival, heavy traffic jam took us around 9 hours to drive there.

Now I am back to Phimai for Songklan festival.
On 6 am, me and my friend went out to buy some offerings to monks to 7-11.
For offering, anything can be fine except for alcohol.
We bought some instant noodles, snacks, juice, rice and so on.
In the region nearby Laos, they give some sticky rice instead of plane rice.
For me it was surprising to see those "offering pack" in 7-11!
IMG_0447

There are big offering celemony, since Songklan is originally the birthday of Buddha.
People take off shoes when offering, to show respect to the monks.
As a "reward" of offering, the monks chant.
For the chant, people say "saatu" instead of saying "thank you".

This is how the offering celemony takes place.
People are displaying a lot of stuff onto the desks.
The more monks coming, more offerings are displayed.
IMG_0454

I am trying this offering.
The monk looks like "oh it's already full"
IMG_0551

When monk's bowl became full, they put the offerings into a big bag.
If those food is too much, the temple offer to homeless people, never waste them.
IMG_0458

Little monks.
This is summer vacation for them, since boys must be a monk at least once in a lifetime, the best time to go to be a little monk.
IMG_0463

So much offerings.
IMG_0466

In this offering celemony, splashing has not happening yet.
People once go home to prepare for the "fight".

Japanese Buddhism temple celebrate the birthday of Buddha on April 8th, which is called 'Flower Festival'.
Temples spread special sweet tea to the statuesof Buddha.
This tea is made from Chinese spice called Arhat Fruite.

In Thailand, this festival got much more extreme, and this is called Songklan.
Since Thailand is Buddhism country, most of holidays are based on Buddhism, and Songklan is also considered as an important holiday.
For this holiday people go back to their hometown to see their families and relatives, or they go to another country.
They also have special calendar, and new year starts from this day.
Now on April 8th 2019, it will be the year of 2562.
Because of this holiday, the traffic in this countrygo crazy like this.

The most famous thing in this festival is, water sprashing.
Don't care you know them or not, people splash water to you and everybody.
Quite a lot of people are carrying waterguns withthem, and it is sold like below.
Since this is the hottest season of the year, this is something all (maybe most) of them appreciate.
IMG_0412

Recently these shops started to sell  waterproof packs for phones.
You should be careful, those things sold on the streets are easy to get broken.
For water guns you can try them at the shops.
If you are worried, I recommend to carry things on your own.
This time I bought 4 waterproof packs and 2 of them are broken.
1 of the water gun out of 3 is broken.

Not only waters, they also spread some powder.
Some of them use baby powder, but most of them use powders sold on the street.
They just throw them, or mix into water.
This colored one obviously don't look healthy.
